For the next five years,
Malek stayed with Belgretor, learning
to unlock his powers. Eventually, Malek decided that it was time to
explore the world. Initially intending to join the Adventurers' Guild
in Alderthorpe, Malek got no further than Underwolde, where he met the
gnomish wizard Rune Nivitar. A week later, while working with Rune to
recover a stolen
Fatescope,
he met Aramil, Lennier,
Miya and Phrostbat
and witnessed Aramil absorb
the
Heartstone into his chest. During a visit to the
Mazes of Bebilee, Malek discovered that his shadow had been replaced by
a 'shadow faux' — a
creature capable of pretending to be a shadow in order to collect
information. Malek
has been warned that if his connection to the shadow faux is severed,
he could die. Description: Malek is five feet eight inches tall and weighs 139 pounds, making him tall and thin for a half-elf. He has green eyes and black hair, which he shaves into a ponytail. He usually travels light, carrying his possessions in a small backback, over which he drapes his cloak.
Equipment: Malek travels light and unarmored,
relying on his bracers of armor
for protection. He
carries a light crossbow and usually has a dagger tucked away
somewhere. Malek keeps
a few alchemic supplies in his backback, along with a morningstar and a
scroll case. He usually wears his cloak
of elvenkind when he is on the road, and he has recently started
to keep his Furzor's lesser rod of
empowerment
in his belt. Family:
Malek's parents run a
trading business in the river-side town of Alderthorpe in
the north of the Kingdom of Rilian. His human
mother, Morag,
is now approaching middle-age, and looks much older than his
elven father, Rik, even though she has seen fewer years. Malek's
younger brother Ricven
lives with his parents.
Malek's elven ancestors ran a prosperous timber business in the Free Cities region. His elven grandparents are still alive and still involved in running this business. His human grandmother came to the region family in 754, after her family was killed by bandits. She died in childbirth several months later. Her daughter, Morag, became a skilled dressmaker and fell in love with a young elf named Rik. Rik's parents strongly disapproved of their son's relationship, and eventually the young couple was forced to flee the village. They married and later settled in Alderthorpe, where they started a small trading business. Malek was born in the summer of the year 777, shortly after his parents arrived in the town. His younger brother Ricven was born to the couple five years later.
The small amount of money that Malek had been carrying had fallen out of his pocket and was lying next to him when he awoke. There were apparently no witnesses. Recently, Malek has begun to wonder if there is a connection between this event and the fate of his shadow. |
