Rune "Wigglesworth" Nivitar
(played by Morné)

RuneThis young gnomish wizard has many names. His common gnomish name is Rune, his clan name is Nivitar and the name he uses amongst humans is Wigglesworth.

Following a family tragedy, Rune left the gnomish clan lands behind him and began exploring the lands to the west. He has travelled through several parts of the Elven Alliance and visited the free cities of Penham and Mavel.

More than three years after beginning his travels, Rune heard about the near-legendary Tower of Ransora in the north of the Kingdom of Rilian. He was on his way towards the Tower when he first met Malek Woodmanson in Underwolde. A week later, while working with Malek to recover a stolen Fatescope, he met Aramil, Lennier, Miya and Phrostbat.

After witnessing the Heartstone embed itself in Aramil's chest, Rune joined the group referred to as the 'Guardians of the Heartstone'. Although he occasionally questions the wisdom of that choice, it is since becoming caught up in the Heartstone quest that Rune has had his most exciting and dangerous adventures, and has really begun developing his magical skills.

ClawDescription: Rune is three feet four inches tall and weighs 44 pounds. He has pale blue eyes, and black hair. Black hair is extremely rare for a gnome, and marks Rune as a member of the Nivitar clan. Rune often travels on the back of a riding dog so that he can keep up with his adventuring companions. He usually travels light, but his precious spellbook is almost always nearby.

Animal companions: His raven familiar, Claw, is never far away. Claw spends much of his time circling in the sky near Rune, but sometimes perches on the gnome's shoulder. This talented bird is able to speak gnomish, although he has a strong raven accent.

NightshadeShortly after meeting his current companions in Underwolde, Rune purchased a fine riding dog named Nightshade. Nightshade's coat was a black as the night, and she was a loyal companion to Rune. Sadly, she was devoured by ferocious bulette en route to Loria, leaving Rune deeply distressed. When the group reached Loria, Rune was given a new riding dog named Temor by Eriol Kail, an elf from the merchant kingdom. Temor has served Rune well since leaving Loria. She has a thick brown coat and a friendly nature.

SpellbookEquipment: When he gets into tight spots, Rune's best weapon is his spellbook. He knows several dozen spells and he has his favourites — comprehend languages and disguise self — so commited to memory that he doesn't even need a spellbook to prepare them. The gnome also has a small collection of scrolls, and keeps paper and ink handy to jot down notes. Although his strengths are with magic, the young wizard keeps a dagger and a light crossbow nearby when he is travelling. He also recently began wearing a circlet of blasting.

As well as managing his own gear, Rune also performs the role of quartermaster for his adventuring group. This means that he usually knows exactly who still has healing potions left in an emergency.

Family: Rune was the only child of the Chief of the Nivitar Clan. He had a happy childhood, but as he grew into adulthood the shadow of a rival clan loomed. One dark night, both of his parents were murdered by the Chief of the Torask Clan. A freshly orphaned Rune managed to escape from the clan lands, and deciding to put his past behind him, he began travelling.

Background: Rune enjoys the outdoors, and prefers the country-side to hills and caverns. He has a sound knowledge of nature and he is a competent trapmaker. Rune has a healthy appetite and special fondness for cheese. During breaks in his travels he enjoys carving small wooden animals, but since joining his most recent companions, he has found little time for this hobby. Although Rune has occasionally tried his luck as an entertainer during his travels, his attempts did not meet with much success, and for now he has decided to stick to adventuring.
